I work with founders when they're weighing decisions that will materially shape the business.

These are decisions that change the direction, structure, or risk profile – and once taken, are hard to unwind.I work alongside founders at these points to help them arrive at a clear position before committing.

The kind of situations I’m brought into

This often includes situations like:
– deciding whether to commit to a major expansion or capacity move
– bringing a critical capability or supplier in-house
– choosing whether to double down on an existing direction or refocus the business

How the work works

The work is centred on a specific decision the founder is actively considering. We work through it over a defined period – usually a few months – allowing time to examine the implications, test assumptions, and see what holds up as more information becomes clear. The engagement is limited in scope and ends once the founder has reached a clear position and committed to a path. Some founders return later when another decision of similar weight arises.

Recent situations I’ve worked on

– A founder running a side line that had been part of the business for years, absorbing cash and attention without ever delivering in return. The decision was whether to double down with intent or let it go and refocus the business.
– A business planning a factory move and expansion that would tighten cash and reduce room for error. The work focused on whether the timing and scale were right before committing.
– A founder considering bringing a supplier’s assets in-house to unlock control and margin. The decision hinged on what to take on, how to operate it sensibly, and whether the added complexity was worth it.
– Two businesses exploring a close partnership that would materially change ownership, control, and cost structure. The work centred on whether the shape of the deal actually served the founder’s goals.
Different situations, but the same underlying pattern: decisions where the downstream consequences would be felt long after the choice was made.

Background

I’ve worked closely with founder-led businesses in senior finance and strategy roles, often at moments where the next move materially changed the business. My work has focused on bringing clarity and judgement to decisions that carry real weight for both the business and the founder.
